Many people are feeling the emotional and psychological strain of social distancing. Chicago Booth’s Nicholas Epley says that, for all the ways COVID-19 may make us feel helpless, we are each empowered to make a substantive difference in someone else’s day through the simple act of reaching out to themespecially those people who we're not particularly close with. Though doing so may sound awkward, Epley’s research has demonstrated that people underestimate how much the recipient of that contact will appreciate it.
