US presidential candidate Donald Trump has made frequent reference to his prowess as a negotiator. But while it is possible that Trump is a good negotiator, Chicago Booth’s George Wu explains that it's impossible for Trump himself to know for sure. In fact, people have a general tendency to overestimate their success in negotiations—Wu’s research shows that most people walk away from the bargaining table thinking they’ve claimed more than half the “pie” available.
